Brosefs and brosefinas, imagine this. You and your friends are trying to decide which restaurant to go to. If you have a big enough friends' group and you have actually done this, you know that this is a Herculean task. While Raj is in the mood for Chinese cuisine, Rahul is allergic to prawns and hence wants Italian, you are confused about Indian or Thai, Sweta is in the mood for some authentic Bengali cuisine, Farah is looking to go to some place which has nice starters while Mahesh is totally nonchalant about the food, but only wants good scotch. Oh wait, that's not the end. Farah wants to go to a place she hasn't visited in the last 2 months, you want to go to a place where the music is dialed down low so that you can actually hear your friends speak, Raj wants a place where the AC isn't too much and finally Mahesh also wants a place where they play good country hits. Phew!
Sure you open Zomato and check the ratings. But more or less everything is around 4.3 and you are left even more confused. At that point of time, you call your cousin who is actually training to be a chef and is a food blogger. He recommends this sassy new place (let's call it Restaurant X) which serves the best oriental cuisine and plays great music. Sure it doesn't suit everybody's whims and fancies but let's face it, that was never going to happen.
After you hang up, you quickly check out your cousin's Instagram and sure enough, you find that she has actually put up photos of Restaurant X - its food, decor, ambiance and boy it looks amazing.
You give your friends an ultimatum that this is it and whoever's not willing to try out Restaurant X, can order at home. Well what do ya know? All of them are ready to go out and try out this new sassy joint!
What just happened is social media influencing. Your cousin was the influencer. Since you value your cousin's opinion in matters of food, you listened to her advice and tried out Restaurant X (oh and totally loved it!). If you think a little, there are plenty of occasions where we influence or get influenced by others. When it happens over social media, it's called.....*wait for it* social media influencing. Boom!
