Who doesn't love Twitter? From celebrities taking potshots at each other to POTUS leaking secret strategies, Twitter has seen unprecedented growth in the last 2 years (it has a whopping 336 million users now!)!
While there are individuals who take full advantage of the platform, brands aren't far behind either (and in some cases ahead). In fact, brands use Twitter as a major platform to engage and grow their customer bases. Some brands though have taken their Twitter game to a new level altogether. It's a delight to browse through their witty and sassy Twitter feed.
Here are 10 Indian brands who are putting Twitter on fire!
10. Uber India
Though strictly not an Indian brand (duh), the twitter handle reads Uber_India and we just had to include them. With 276k followers, they are known to come up with extremely witty tweets which focus on their core operations - logistics. At the same time, these tweets revolve around the current hot topics. Now that's amazing! Check this out.
The tweets speak for themselves. In an industry which isn't typically glamorous (let's face it people, logistics is not exactly insta-worthy), Uber ensures these tweets engage their followers and keep them hooked. Learn a thing or two will ya?
9. Ola
With 216k followers, Ola follows closely on the heels of Uber (no pun intended. Or is it?). Their twitter game is right up there and they also engage fairly well with their peeps who tweet while marking them and asking some fairly innovative questions. They are also up to date with the current trends and make full use of them while tweeting about their various schemes.
Not only do they upload innovative photos, they are also known to create hashtags whenever there is an important event happening. For the recently concluded Asian Games, they had created #RoadtoGlory. Get the drift?
8. Big Basket
While Big Basket might not be full of sass and sharp wit, what they do very efficiently is engage their followers with recipes, quizzes, polls and content which might not be even related to groceries. Companies in the hyper local delivery domain often end up promoting their cash-backs and other offers. Big Basket also does so, but in an incredibly subtle way which does not dilute the actual message. Bombarding your followers with simply promotional content is never a good idea. And Big Basket realized that a long time ago.
If you go check their account, you will quickly notice that they make very good use of the short video format (usually less than 20 seconds). Also, they run loads of contests where their 27.3k Twitter participants stand a chance and actually do win goodies. All in all, if you are looking for sass and fun, this might not be the ideal handle. But they sure do know how to engage their followers.
7. Amazon Prime India
With 86.8k followers, this juggernaut entering at number 7, isn't really a surprise. Amazon is known for its extremely sharp wit and funny replies. Amazon Prime India isn't any different. The way it uses its content to promote current affairs is unbelievable. GIFs and videos seem to be propelling this twitter handle's content. And boy, does it come up with innovative taglines to these media clips! Here are 2 of our all time favorites.
We can only expect the GIFs and memes to get better. What we are really hoping for though is an Amazon and Netflix showdown on Twitter. Yo Netflix, you listening?
6. Marvel India
Again, before you start pointing out that Marvel isn't an Indian brand (we so wish it was!), we are simply referring to the Indian Twitter handle. The folks behind this handle are phenomenally talented and keep churning out innovative content one after the other. Granted that the Marvel movies are themselves immensely fun, but making your tweets as funny and entertaining as them is no mean feat. Like Tony Stark said, "Better clench up, Legolas."
Even if you aren't a Marvel fan (are you serious?! go follow now, they already have 21.7k followers), you are more than likely to love this Twitter handle because of the sheer wit. Another really cool thing they have managed to accomplish is break the language barrier for audiences in India. They regularly post in Hindi or even with subtitles. We can only expect the Twitter Avengers to become funnier and more sarcastic with time.
5. Netflix India
While we have put Netflix India at number 5 (after much deliberation and thought), this is by far the coolest Twitter account we have come across. How is it cool you ask? Well, we ask you how is it not? Right from amazing taglines to hilarious memes to funny GIFs, crazy ways to introduce shows and everything in between, this is one account which will keep you engaged AF. The result? They have a whopping 126k follower count! And the content just keeps on getting better and better.
I really wanted to share more tweets (because they are so damn good) but my editor is going all Ray Holt on me (Brooklyn 99 baby!). Well for once, I will defy him anyway and show you my favourite tweet in recent time. Marvel at the creation (no pun intended, again)
4. Swiggy
Apart from killing it in the startup scene, Swiggy has lately been hitting the ball out of the park when it comes Twitter. Not only does it have innovative content, it makes it a point to reply to funny and sarcastic tweets, it makes sure it spices up its reply so that the tweets go viral. It has 51.8k followers which is pretty good. The best part is it has one of the best engagement ratios we have seen. Check out this discussion between Swiggy and Pyper Group.
Here's another one!
We would really like to meet the folks running this account, because they are doing a fabulous job! They are able to integrate almost all the aspects of our daily lives into the delicious food they serve. And most importantly, they are able to laugh at themselves as well. An intelligent strategy for Swiggy has been to differentiate its customer service Twitter account from the main one, so that it doesn't look like a page full of apologies.
3. Zomato
Zomato has been tearing it up recently. Present in 23 countries, this company is slowly transforming into the poster boy for Indian startups. And guess what? It's no different on Twitter. With a whopping 1.41 Mn followers (say whaaaaat?!), this Twitter account is literally on fire! There is no dearth of sass and wit in their 12.6k tweets so far. It's rare that they don't capitalize on any hot topic. In fact some of their tweets are so tongue in cheek, that they have gotten into a wee bit of trouble as well (remember their MC BC tweet and ad?). That doesn't and should not stop this amazing brand from unleashing their creativity on social media.
We'll just showcase 3 of the best tweets. But trust us, we could fill a 20 page blog with their creativity!
See what we mean? Try calling them out on Twitter with a funny/ sarcastic pip. If you're lucky, you might see their wit in action on the spot. Tag us at @pypergroup if you do end up having a Twitter banter!
2. Amul
Surprised to see an age old brand here? That too at number 2! What would an old brand new about this new Twitter game? Well as it turns out, "Baap baap hota hai!" Amul as a brand has churned out the best and we mean the absolute best print ads. The consistency with which they have used their wordplay is incredible to say the least. Similarly, they have taken to social media with a vengeance. They don't leave any chance when it comes to promoting their product in a subtle and funny way. Take a look at these gems!
Now you know what we are talking about. The sheer level of creativity is awesome in their Twitter account. And they also engage really well with their consumers. Being an age old brand, it's surely not easy adapting to the digital changes. But boy have they risen to the challenge!
1. Mumbai Police
You must be wondering whether we have completely lost our minds. No we have not! We know Mumbai Police isn't exactly the brand you were expecting to be at number 1 (heck, is it even a brand?) But oh my god! They are the ones ruling Twitter! And we mean RULING. One look at their account and you will realize why we have put them at number 1. Being a cop isn't easy (and more so in India). The humour and wit which they use to highlight serious issues is really applause-worthy. The police is the butt of all jokes in a country like India where they aren't exactly the most glorified profession. But these guys are turning all of that around! Take a look.
There you have it folks! The brilliance of Mumbai Police! This account to us, is unparalleled in terms of creativity, inspiration and delivering a strong message. Btw, they have 4.65 Mn followers! Now you know why.
